ITAD QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Secure technology retirement, made clear.

What all organizations big or small should know about pickup, data security, asset recovery, recycling, and reporting.

THE BASICS

A responsible process from pickup through final disposition.

Slate Peak Asset Recovery helps businesses, schools, healthcare organizations, and public agencies retire technology with documented handling and practical, transparent options.

What is IT asset disposition?

IT asset disposition, or ITAD, is the controlled process of retiring technology. It includes secure collection, inventory and custody records, data sanitization or destruction, reuse and value recovery, responsible recycling, and final reporting.

What equipment do you accept?

Typical projects include laptops, desktops, servers, storage, networking equipment, monitors, mobile devices, drives, accessories, and other business technology. Share an inventory—or your best estimate—and we will confirm the project scope.

How do you protect our assets during pickup?

We plan the release with authorized contacts, count and identify equipment, document custody transfer, and securely transport the shipment. Project records keep customer, site, shipment, and asset details connected.

How is data handled?

Data-bearing devices are identified and processed using an agreed sanitization or physical-destruction method appropriate to the media and project requirements. Failed, locked, or damaged media is treated as an exception—not assumed safe.

Do you follow recognized data-sanitization guidance?

Our workflows can be aligned to customer requirements and recognized guidance such as NIST SP 800-88. We define the method, evidence, and reporting for each engagement without overstating certifications.

Can retired equipment still have value?

Yes. After data risk is resolved, suitable assets may be tested for reuse, resale, refurbishment, or parts recovery. Depending on the project, recovered value may offset service costs, support an outright offer, or be shared under agreed terms.

What happens to equipment that cannot be reused?

Non-recoverable equipment is directed to qualified downstream recycling partners appropriate to the material. Our goal is to keep retired technology out of landfills while maintaining accountability for final disposition.

What reporting can we receive?

Reporting can include received inventory, serial numbers, reconciliation notes, sanitization or destruction outcomes, exceptions, reuse or recovery results, and recycling disposition. We tailor reporting to the organization and project.

Do you support small businesses and school refreshes?

Absolutely. We serve projects from focused office cleanouts to multi-site school and enterprise refreshes. The process is scaled to the volume, schedule, security needs, and reporting expectations.

How do we get started?

Send an inventory if one is available, or provide estimated quantities, locations, equipment types, timing, and security requirements. We will review the details and recommend the right pickup and disposition plan.
