How Secure Chain of Custody Protects Retired IT Assets
Control begins before the truck arrives
Define authorized contacts, locations, equipment types, estimated quantities, security requirements, and the people permitted to release assets. This creates a clear transfer plan.
Document every handoff
Pickup records should identify the project, origin, date, personnel, shipment, containers, and counts. At receiving, the shipment is reconciled and exceptions are documented.
Close the loop
Final reports should connect each asset to its data-processing and disposition outcome so the customer can account for what left the site and where it went.
